MoPOP To Honor Alice in Chains With 2020 Founders Award

MoPOP Founders Award 2020 featuring Alice in Chains

For the first time ever, the Museum of Pop Culture's highly-anticipated Founders Award annual fundraiser event will be free to the public, streaming online Tuesday, December 1 as MoPOP honors Seattle's own Alice in Chains.

The one-night-only benefit will be broadcast virtually beginning at 6 p.m. PT featuring unforgettable performances by Alice in Chains, as well as an acclaimed lineup of musicians who will put their own twist on some of the band's most iconic songs.

Since 2007, MoPOP's Founders Award has celebrated artists whose noteworthy contributions continue to nurture the next generation of risk-takers. For the last three decades, Alice in Chains' musicianship, advocacy work, and dedication to their fans have made them an integral part of Seattle’s artistic community. The band (vocalist and guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney, bassist Mike Inez and vocalist and guitarist William DuVall) has garnered multiple Grammy nominations, sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and amassed millions of diehard fans across the world.

Alice in Chains is also an important part of MoPOP's legacy. Through their inspiring performances in our Sky Church, their preservation of stories for future generations of music lovers, and their dedication to our youth programs — their impact on the museum runs deep.

The influence of Alice in Chains is woven into the fabric of Seattle music history and we’re thrilled to honor them with this year’s Founders Award,” says MoPOP Executive Director Alexis Lee. “While circumstance has moved our annual fundraiser online, we’re excited that people around the world will be able to be a part of our creative community and experience the band and an amazing line-up of tribute artists.”

While this year's Founders Award will stream for free and be open to all, like many arts organizations around the country, as a community supported nonprofit museum and in-person gathering space, MoPOP has been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis. All proceeds raised through Founders Award will provide relief by allowing us to continue to serve our community, reach young people, and preserve our shared pop culture history during this difficult time.
