John Vilanova is Professor of Practice in Journalism & Communication and Africana Studies at Lehigh University. He researches structural and institutional inequities manifest in the global popular music industry. He holds a PhD from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and has recent publications in the Journal of Popular Music Studies and the International Journal of Communication. He is working on a monograph about the GRAMMY Awards, blackness, and “excellence.”
