Ridley Scott

As the director of Blade Runner, Legend, Prometheus, and The Martian, Ridley Scott has created epic science fiction worlds, fantastic adventures, and terrifying creatures.

Scott’s 1979 film Alien sent a shock through the science fiction film world that was used to low-budget fluff and romantic space opera fantasies. Three years later Blade Runner reinvented the genre once again, introducing a gritty, film-noir tone and disturbing moral dilemmas. Both films are often imitated, but have never been equaled.

Ridley Scott also directed the groundbreaking “1984” Apple Macintosh commercial, one of the most famous television ads ever made. Scott is a visionary in terms of production design, and both his science fiction films conjure up a detailed and utterly convincing future. Blade Runner is particularly powerful in its design, and proved an influence on the cyberpunk movement. Scott is a three-time nominee for the Best Director Academy Award (1992, 2001, 2002), and was knighted in 2003.
