One of These is Not Like the Other: The "One-Hit Wonder" Playlist

Guitar Sculpture at MoPOP

What’s a "One-Hit Wonder?" A musical artist or group that had one successful chart-topping hit and never achieved that level of success ever again. They might have an impressive music catalog but, for some reason, they still struggled to capture the success of the one song that made them famous.

One unproductive afternoon a few months ago, my co-workers and I decided to create a "One-Hit Wonder" playlist. Completely void of objective reasoning and fueled purely by nostalgia and our fondest childhood memories, this list was born, born, born, born to be alive.

Purge yourself of the stress and anxiety of the COVID-19 crisis and immerse yourself in those guilty pleasures we used to shake our rumps to. Workout to it in your bedroom, play it while you’re doing your daily house cleaning, or turn the volume up to annoy your neighbors.

As you move and groove, if you’re a more observant music buff, you might notice that one of these artists is not like the others. Can you pinpoint which one of the artists featured on this playlist was, in fact, a two-hit wonder?

  • Hint: This artist’s sunglasses are part of the MoPOP Permanent Collection.

If you think you know the musician on this playlist that's a two-hit wonder, let us know the name of the artist in the comments below or reply with the artist's name on the social media post promoting this blog. If you deliver a correct answer, and if you're lucky, we might just surprise you with free admission to our museum when we reopen! Good luck!
