MoPOP Shares Schedule of Virtual Events For New Exhibition, 'Contact High: A Visual History of Hip-Hop'
In celebration of Contact High: A Visual History of Hip-Hop opening on October 16, we’re putting on amazing series of events that we hope will deepen the impact of the exhibition. Programs will start in October and stretch into November, when we’ll celebrate Washington State Hip-Hop History Month.
Mic Check One-Two: A Virtual Mini-Concert featuring Sound Off! Alum 49th Parallel

Sound Off! 2020 alum 49th Parallel, a rap group of five friends who have been hanging out for as long as they can remember, focuses on fun and friendship at the core of everything they create. They’re committed to building their community and sharing their collective passion with everyone.

Frame It: Photography Workshop With Kariba Jack
Friday, October 29 | 6 p.m. PT | Register
Learn how to create an image that is frame worthy using any camera you like; from a cell phone camera to a DSLR. You'll learn about the basics of photography, from getting the shot to editing, including:
- What is photography
- Why photography is important
- Types of photography styles and where you'll see that work displayed
- Camera phones & film and digital photography
- Basic shooting guide (ISO, aperture, shutter speed)
- Natural light/harsh lighting/diffused lighting
- At home product shots (finding an object to photograph)
- Discussing post processing mobile apps + software programs
- Editing product photos
About Kariba Jack
Kariba Jack is a hip and fresh Nigerian-American photographer who loves capturing the now. Based here in Seattle, she specializes in natural light photography with a bold and vibrant approach to her portrait and wedding clients. She's photographed many events and worked with celebrities including Trey Songz, Maya, Keyshia Cole, Wale, Common, Keri Hilson, Ne-yo and Tank. Photography is not only her profession, but her passion as well.

Virtual Paint & Sip With Claudia Villalobos & DJ Sir Juan

Paint a rarely seen photograph of megastar Megan Thee Stallion from the Contact High exhibition. Join us from from the comfort of your home for a virtual paint night hosted by Claudia Villalobos.
Grab your favorite beverage, nod your head and tap your foot with every brush stroke as one of MoPOP's favorite DJs, the talented DJ Sir Juan joins us virtually to spin and scratch some of your favorite hits, features, and remixes on the turntables.
A pay-what-you-can ticket includes this livestream event with Claudia Villalobos and DJ Sir Juan and, contributes to MoPOP’s programming, education, and mission. Participants should also plan to purchase a kit of art supplies for $35 by October 29, or download a free tracing template utilizing paint and canvas supplies you already own.
About the Photo and Photographer
The Megan Thee Stallion photo that inspired our paint-and-sip activity was taken by Sam Balaban, a photographer and director based in New Jersey who's has not only been featured n the International Center of Photography, the Annenberg Space for Photography, and select exhibits in New York City and Los Angeles, but will also be in our Contact High: A Visual History of Hip Hop exhibition.
About Claudia Villalobos
Born and raised in the 206, Claudia couldn't be any prouder of her PNW roots! She is passionate about introducing all Youth to the ARTS community and the possibilities of all art mediums. Claudia hosts Creative Art sessions for underprivileged youth and out-of-the-box thinkers to explore the possibility of incorporating art into their lives in hopes that it could be a positive outlet for our future youth. Her love of art encouraged her to create Glow Girls. Glow Girls is a nonprofit that empowers young ladies to express themselves through hands-on art activities, inspiring them to be creative in their own unique way.
