Founders Award 2020 FAQ

Questions? Info@MoPOP.org (206) 770-2700

What is Founders Award?

Founders Award is the nonprofit Museum of Pop Culture’s (MoPOP) premier annual fundraiser. Our mission is to make creative expression a life-changing force by offering experiences that inspire and connect our communities. Since 2007, MoPOP’s Founders Award has celebrated artists whose noteworthy contributions continue to nurture the next generation of creative risk-takers.

Past honorees include Brandi Carlile (2019), John Fogerty (2018), The Doors (2017), Joe Walsh (2016), Jimmy Page (2015), Jackson Browne (2014), Crosby, Stills & Nash (2013), Carlos Santana (2012), Buddy Guy (2011), Billy Cox (2010), Steve Cropper (2009), Robbie Robertson (2008), and Ann & Nancy Wilson (2007).

What does Founders Award benefit?

Like many arts and culture organizations around the country, as a community-supported nonprofit museum and in-person gathering space, MoPOP has been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis. All proceeds raised through Founders Award will provide relief by allowing us to continue to serve our community, reach young people, and preserve our shared pop culture history during this difficult time.

Who is Founders Award 2020 honoring?

Founders Award 2020 is honoring Seattle’s own Alice In Chains! For the last three decades, Alice In Chains’ musicianship, advocacy work, and dedication to their fans have made them an integral part of Seattle’s artistic community. The band (vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney, bassist Mike Inez, and vocalist/guitarist William DuVall and posthumously, original lead singer, Layne Staley and bassist, Mike Starr) has garnered multiple Grammy nominations, sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and amassed millions of diehard fans across the world.

Alice In Chains is also an important part of MoPOP's legacy. Through their inspiring performances in our Sky Church, their preservation of stories for future generations of music lovers, and their dedication to our youth programs, their impact on the museum runs deep.
